Report day 4Opening the curtains is looked like it was going to be a long day. After floating a couple of hours in the warm sun the sailors were surprised by the shore crew with real Dutch pastry (“gevulde koeken” ) and bottles of cool water. Finally the first race started at 15.00PM. A second race was started but had to abandoned due to a big wind shift.
European Championship Women:
Again, the Belgian Evi van Acker leads the women fleet. With her 3rd bullet she is way ahead of her competitors. Gintare Volungeviciute (LTU) kept her second position by sailing a fourth place. The Italian Larissa Nevierov (ITA) follows closely with 3 points difference. This promises an exciting competition.
World Championship Men:
This was again a successful day for the Dutch Men, especially for Steven leFevre and Steven Krol. These Stevens, normally sailing the 470 as a team, show in this event that they sail their single-handed boats well. Eduardo van Vianen kept his first position despite the fact that his day was not really successful. Clearly the Dutch team is very strong, but the team from Great Britain is giving real competition: they are in 3rd, 5th and 6th position.
Tomorrow will be the first day of sailing in Fleets. There are 12 Dutch sailors in the Men Gold Fleet and 5 in the Silver Fleet. In the Women Fleet there are 5 Dutch Gold sailors and 5 Dutch Silver sailors.
